Update 5: Day 6

Hi Babe,
I just barely finished it was a long day. It took me about 7 hours to finish. I ran out of pain meds at about mile 10, and I struggled to the next check point to get more pain pills. But i made it! It was a long day.
I am very excited about tomorrow being the last day of running (hopefully forever) ha but we just have 10 miles tomorrow and when we cross the finish line they give us a lunch ticket and a bus ticket back to the hotel in Ouarzazate. I am so ready for a shower and a bed. Dont get me wrong these rocks are nice but I've found that beds are ust a bit more comfortable. ;)
I miss you like crazy. and I'll try to call you tomorrow.

love you so much.
Pacha-

Update 4: Day 4 & 5

New email:)

Hi babe,

oh man i miss you today. I just finished the long stage 54 miles, we started yesterday morning at 9am and just barely finished at 3:30 today. The longest and hardest 30 hours of my life. We just have 25 miles tomorrow and 10 on saturday, and then we are done! I cannot wait.

Seriously babe, this is the hardest thing i've ever done by far. I really don't know how I have made it this far. Everyday I am almost in tears because its so hard. Everything is telling you to quit, but you just have to keep going. We have this quote in our tent that we say whenever it gets tough

"Pain is temporary, quitting is forever"

I thin of you and how great my life is with you and how lucky I am to have you in it. Your the best, I cant wait to see you soon.
love you so much,
-Pacha

Love this guy, honestly he is amazing. And he's all mine;)
I was able to talk on the phone with him for 30 minutes or so this morning at like 7:30 am. He sounded really good! It really put me at ease when I heard his voice and he sounded like his normal self;)

Thanks everyone for all the phone calls, texts, comments to show support to Pres and to me! Thanks and I love you all so much;)

love,
alex

Update 3: Day 2 & 3

I just recieved a new email on Pres, the title was "i'm alive" :)

Hey babe,
Sorry I didn't get a chance to email yesterday they closed the email before I finished. Ha that means it took me forever! Day 2 was so hard! It took me about 9 hours and 30 minutes and the cut off was 10 hours. I had to see the first aid station about half way through and tape my foot, I have a "stress fracture" in my left foot. But today was much better. Even with the pain I had the best time. Ha who knew pain killers actually work! Ha I should take them more often.
This is the hardest thing I have ever done in my life, but I am going to make it. Don't worry about me. I got your email, thank you so much. I love you so much.
Tomorrow is the long stage, so wish me luck. We have 54 miles.
I will call you tomorrow, so answer. love you. talk to you tomorrow.

Ah! I started crying in the middle of the store reading this. Preston taking meds means he is in major pain. I have never seen him take a pill for anything for all the time I have known him.

I'll post tomorrow after I talk to him,

love,
the very stressed out mrs. lady

Update 2: 1st Race Day

I just recieved my first email from Pres, here it is: (remember he can only write one email a day and to one person so this is to me, and all the family:)

Hello All!

Today was a long day, we ran about 19 miles and 13 of it was through the dunes! I'm not sure why they call them sand dunes, they should be called sand mountains. It was actually a lot harder than I expected for day one. Tomorrow we have about 23 miles, however today was the hardest dune day for the week. I'm very happy about that! The food so far has been pretty good. I'm anxious to eat more food that way my pack will get lighter and lighter. I started the race with about 20 lbs of weight in my pack.
The dunes and the views out here are absolutely beautiful. I'm taking some good photos/videos. So far I only 1 small blister on the end of my toe, so not that bad. Tonight I am having a dried meal and a drink mix. Delicious. Ha, what I would do for a mountain dew or coke.

(he wrote more but thats only for me;))

Until next email...

Love,
alex

And He's Off!

Preston started the race early this morning!

I will post his email when I hear from him...
Hope everyone is having a beautiful conference weekend, I'm loving it! Layed out all day yesterday at the pool (95 degrees here), and am staying with Al and E and watching conference with treats and diet coke in new pajamas! Just missing Mr. :)

My heart is breaking and goes out to one of my sweet good friends Bonnie and her lil family,

Her little one is having a rough start to his new lil life, please keep Bonnie, Louis, and little Lincoln in your prayers

love,
Alex
